Building up the courage to delete instagram

No way we are letting THIS man make a fool of our generation!

Finding the courage to delete this soul zucking app is actually one of the tell-tale signs of substance abuse. Why am I filled with dread over losing a handful of twilight memes and pictures I heavily curated and followers that dgaf about said pictures?
This has to be done though and I want a safe space to document the process to hopefully inspire others in my great generation (gen-z, which has turned into gen-Zuckerberg BTW).

My desocialmediazation has come about after watching some sort of jubilee video where gen-z and boomers were back to back and talking to each-other. Why did I find myself rolling my eyes at the Instagram-fed bs coming out of the gen z's mouthes? The video showed me how we are so unmotivated to take a risk in life. I think that social stupedia has led to this fake Great Plight we have made up for ourselves. Sure the world lowkey sucks for most people and it feels a bit hopeless for those in our 20's, but is it really THAT hard to be an American (whom are the second largest majority of Instagram users*)? This is coming from a place of minimal historical knowledge and an abundance of privilege, but I still think we have it pretty good compared to the past in general. Sure, our parents had and will have more than us but we are still as a whole an extremely privileged demographic. Maybe we should learn and adapt to work with less?

I think what is more powerful is the feeling of being stuck in one of the most unfortunate and bleak historical moments in a long time. We are constantly being bombarded with horrific news on social media which has made me personally feel powerless. Even if the world is the worst it has ever been, why are we so lackadaisical. Everyone I know is a complainer, but nobody I know is a change-maker, including myself.

Also of note, my feed is showing me studies saying how Instagram is harmful and dementia-causing and suicide-inducing, yet I still keep scrolling. It is actually terrifying. It is like a murderer saying that if you walk in an alleyway they are going to kill you, and you do it anyway because you have an addiction to dark alleyways. Idk if that makes sense... but hopefully people actually see this and get inspired to do the same.
