How to delete instagram but keep the mems
After mustering the courage to delete Instagram and improve your life, you need to next actually click that button. As I am writing this I am still hesitant, and hoping this post will give my finger the strength.
But before getting to this point, I wanted to ensure I could retain the nostalgic yet pointless BS I posted for my hundreds of non-adoring fans. This is an easy process and keeps the good aspects of Instagram saved in a zip file on your computer without the doom-scrolling mental blackout parts of Instagram.
Exporting Your Media
1. On Instagram for the web click the following buttons in this order:
- More button in the bottom right corner
- Settings
- Accounts Center
- Your Information and Permissions
- Create Export
- Export to device
- Your Instagram Activity
- Customize Information
- I unclicked everything but the section that reads Your Instagram Activity
- Date range
- I selected the data since I created my account in 2015 (yikes, 10 years of torture)
- Start Export
- Wait until the export is finished and save the zip file to your desktop
You can access your exported stories and posts from this file and repost them to a less toxic site if you want to share them. I don't know of a nontoxic social media, but lmk if anyone finds one.
Deleting Your Account
1. On Instagram for the web click the following buttons in this order:
- More button in the bottom right corner
- Settings
- Accounts Center
- Manage Accounts
- Account ownership and control
- Deactivation or deletion
- Delete account
- Continue (knowing well that the information is exported)
- Continue
- Continue (gah damn they really want u to rethink this, DON'T!)
- Delete Account!
And now you can take a deep inhale knowing that you just added actual years to your life.
